This specimen was seen, sketched and photographed at Mt Hartz National Park in southern Tasmania. It was early in December and the various stages of flowering, from bud burst to the spidery appearance at the end of flowering can be observed in this artwork.
When the unique Tasmanian Waratah is in full flower, it produces copious amounts of nectar which is a wonderful food source for all honey eating birds.
