Lisa’s work suggests a human presence in the landscape, but  often it is not obvious, only implied. In the artist’s world we imagine a place where people live in harmony with nature. We have irrevocably changed the land, but can we tread more gently & care for our world & thus create balance? These ideas seem to be evoked in the gentle and grounded scenes Lisa paints. There is a benevolence which urges the viewer to return kindness to the land.

Lisa Moroney is a painter based in Hobart and the midlands where she operates a sheep farm alongside her husband. Time spent in the midlands is the inspiration for her landscape paintings of paddocks, old trees and big skies. Each painting starts with a considered drawing, with colour used to enhance the observed spaces and forms. Lisa graduated from the University of Tasmania, School of Creative Arts in 2014, majoring in painting.

She was a finalist in the 2020 Glover Prize for contemporary landscape painting and is a finalist in this years Henry Jones Art Prize.
