The Field of Dreams: Walking in Tasmania's first National Park
Mark Clemens
Hardcover
The Field of Dreams is the first book ever written about Mt. Field, Tasmania’s oldest national park and one of Australia’s most beloved. In 2013, World Heritage status was bestowed upon it by the United Nations, enabling Mt. Field to be geographically linked into one of the largest temperate wilderness regions left on Earth: the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
The book is a series of essays describing journeys on foot into this exceptional national park. They delve deeply into the personal and universal connection with natural places—and how enchantment follows from our immersion in them. Implicit, is the mystery of how wild spaces resonate within us long after we leave them; how they become imbedded in memory; and how the recollection of particular landscapes brings us solace.
The Field of Dreams also visually renders the wonder of Mt. Field: forty-four high quality landscape photographs accompany the writing to help the reader better place themselves within its lush borders.
The 29th of August 2016 marked the centenary of Mt. Field National Park. The Field of Dreams celebrates this important milestone.
