The Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa) has unique facial markings which make it easily identifiable.

They are monogamous and surprisingly, they may nest high in tree hollows; making it quite a feat for their initially flightless ducklings to leave the nest.

They are dabblers, and while they feed during the day, they are known to forage extensively during the night. Although they feed largely on plants, they do supplement their diet with insects, molluscs and even small fish. This is reflected in the pattern at the lower edge of this painting.
