The extensive wetlands and sand-flats that surround Pilitika / Robbins Island are home to more resident and migratory shorebirds and waterbirds than the rest of Tasmania combined. This is Tasmania’s most important shorebird site, recognised internationally as a Key Biodiversity Area. The island meets 7 of the 9 criteria for listing as a Ramsar Wetland of International Significance, where just a single criterion is required for listing.
Rob Blakers has photographed in the wild places of Tasmania for over 40 years. His interests lie in landscape, environmental conservation and the evolution of photographic methods and values in the age of digital technology.
