Artist Statement- Thirty-six Views of the Mountain: Shore to Summit
Thirty-six Views of the Mountain: Shore to Summit, comprises linocuts exploring the mountain’s presence from sea level to high country. The central triptych, Thirty-six Views of the Mountain, presents thirty-six small linocuts arranged in three panels of twelve — glimpses of kunanyi from Kingston Beach, through the suburbs, and up to the summit tracks.

This exhiibiton has been inspired by renowned Japanese woodcut artist Hokusai's series, Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The series of woodcuts depicts Mount Fuji from different locations and in various seasons and weather conditions. Belinda has brought this idea into the local context, highlighting Hobartian's reverence to kunanyi, which has become the iconic background of our beloved city, an ever present reminder of the wild beauty that exists right on our doorstep.
