This work depicts five spotted pardalote — tiny, jewel-like birds native to Australia — drawn in graphite and coloured pencil. The piece reflects the quiet brilliance of these birds and their shifting habitat. Spotted pardalote breed in Tasmania’s dry sclerophyll forests, often nesting in earthen banks high in the ranges. As cooler months arrive, they descend to lower elevations and coastal eucalypt woodlands, following the seasonal flowering of manna gums and white peppermint. Their lives unfold within layers of bark and canopy — delicate yet vital threads in Tasmania’s ecological tapestry.
This work honours their subtle movement between mountain and margin — a quiet migration, almost invisible, yet profoundly attuned to the rhythms of the land.
Mountain - A Group Exhibition
Mountains shape the Tasmanian landscape. Rising from mist and shadow, they stand as markers of deep time, sites of story, endurance, and awe. From the jagged dolerite cliffs of kunanyi to the weather-worn ranges of the west, these peaks hold layers of meaning—geological, ecological, and historical.
This group exhibition brings together artists working across diverse mediums to respond to the mountains of Tasmania. Through painting, photography, printmaking and drawing, each artist offers an individual encounter with these forms: as places of belonging, as symbols of resilience, as fragile environments under threat. It celebrates the mountains that define our unique landscape and experience in Tasmania.
