Embrace the Light - Artist's Statement

Painting has always been my passion, my meditation, a way of truly feeling me.

This last year has been the most challenging time of my life. My mother passed away suddenly, then my daughter was diagnosed with an aggressive and rare cancer. To cope, I would retreat into my studio and allow my creative self to simply be. Many melancholy images flowed into my mind and onto the canvas. I found myself painting more reflective, mysterious scenes. My paintings were still on the theme of Tasmania's wild dramatic scenery, but often just using a few soft, yet rich earth tones. This exhiibtion tells the story of exactly how I have been feeling over the last year.

Georgina Richmond has been painting in oils since she was 14. Coming from an artistic family, she was always encouraged to create art. In 1986 she gained a B.A Hons in Fine Art at the Gloucester College of the Arts in the U.K. She arrived in Tasmania in 1987 and quickly fell in love with the wild and raw beauty of the Island. She has had numerous solo shows and has been a finalist for the John Glover Art prize twice. This exhibition is a showcase of her love of Tasmania's Wilderness.
