Barbara Tassell - Artist Statement

Experiencing Tasmania’s natural environment on foot with an iPhone in hand is the starting point of my work which I then follow up by exploring the images using Photoshop. It is through this exploration, often taking many hours, that the touch and feel of the places I have been come to life in the pictures I make. I often refer to my work as printmaking rather than photography as I feel the product has often drifted far away from my original photographs to seek other interpretations. My work is different from and cannot be compared to the beautiful photographic prints captured by Tasmania’s photographers.
