Rob Blakers - Pilitika / Robbins Island - Double-banded Plover 3

Double-banded plover 3, Pilitika / Robbins Island

Rob Blakers

Archival inkjet print on platine fibre rag
41 x 41cm

Morning light catches a double-banded plover – which has just migrated to Tasmania from New Zealand, foraging with red-necked stints, which are just about to depart to Siberia, and red-capped plovers, resident to the island – on the pristine Ransonnet Beach at Pilitika / Robbins Island. With over 20 species of migratory and resident shorebirds the island is a model avian multicultural society. Each species has specific adaptions of size, beak, behaviour or stature, to take advantage of specific ecological niches.

Rob Blakers has photographed in the wild places of Tasmania for over 40 years. His interests lie in landscape, environmental conservation and the evolution of photographic methods and values in the age of digital technology.
