Flocking together and constantly moving, these beautiful birds are in full breeding plumage. Just days from their departure for Siberia, they will breed on the Arctic tundra, well away from the ocean, before returning to Tasmania 6 months later.

Rob Blakers has photographed in the wild places of Tasmania for over 40 years. His interests lie in landscape, environmental conservation and the evolution of photographic methods and values in the age of digital technology.
