Azure waters and the pristine eastern beach of
Rob Blakers
Canvas print stretched over frame
125 x 75cm
A 500m industrial wharf is planned for this beach and a 90m wide, 400m long swathe would be cut through the vegetated dune-fields at left to service a massive wind farm with 100 turbines, each three times as tall as Hobart’s Wrest Point Casino, that is proposed for the island. The wind farm places shorebirds, migratory parrots and resident eagles at risk of turbine collision, and potentially also exposes the large, naturally quarantined population of Tasmanian devils to disease.
Rob Blakers has photographed in the wild places of Tasmania for over 40 years. His interests lie in landscape, environmental conservation and the evolution of photographic methods and values in the age of digital technology.
