Join us for this informative and engaging talk with 2 of Tasmania's most renowned bird experts, Dr Eric Woehler OAM and Dr Sally Bryant. Dr Woehler will discuss threatened shorebirds in his talk 'Tasmania: a refuge for our resident shorebirds' and Dr Bryant will focus on ‘Little bird of lutruwita: Saving Tasmania’s Forty-spotted Pardalote’

Dr Eric Woehler is a population ecologist who has been working on seabirds and shorebirds for more than 40 years. His research interests in Tasmania have focussed on the beach-nesting shorebirds and terns, and he has surveyed, mapped and monitored these species for almost 30 years. Drawing on the results of his surveys and those from the Australian mainland, it is clear that Tasmania is of national and international significance for a number of species. Dr Woehler's talk will describe the species, the results of the surveys and the threats they face each day on our beaches.  Eric was awarded an OAM in 2021 for his services to bird ecology and continues in his efforts to conserve Tasmania's coastal habitats and the birds that rely on them.

As a Wildlife Scientist Dr  Sally Bryant worked for 30 years managing threatened species programs for the State Government and then as Head of Conservation Science with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy. Sally has travelled widely studying threatened birds and has authored and co-authored numerous books, chapters, and scientific papers on wildlife conservation. In 2020 she became an Honorary Research Fellow with the TLC, Editor of the Journal Papers and Proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania and is perhaps best known through her popular ABC Radio wildlife talkback program delivered fortnightly since 1999. She is a passionate advocate for Tasmania’s wildlife and Chair of the Forty-spotted Pardalote National Recovery Team.
